Home Water Treatment
A lot of people take water in their home for granted. They expect that every time they turn on a faucet, they will get clean, clear, healthy water. Treatment is something that they don’t even consider.
It is becoming harder and harder to find good, healthy water. And part of the problem is us! We are slowly polluting everything around us! Our water may contain impurities from minerals, gases, bacteria, metals, and chemicals. Some could affect our health. And some could affect our equipment such as plumbing, washing machines, and maybe even heating systems, just to name a few. Bad water can also stain things. They could include laundry, and anything that has water constantly on it. For instance a building that is watered by an irrigation system.
If you have municipal water, it is tested and adjusted regularly. This just means that the water is healthy to drink. It does not mean that it is the best!
If you own your own well for water it would typically only get checked when it is new. And then again, the test only tells you that it is safe to drink and use for other purposes in your household.
Methods that improve the quality of your water are treatment and conditioning.
So just what is the difference? Treatment deals mainly with the health aspects. It reduces unhealthy contaminants in your water such as arsenic, lead and pesticides.
Conditioning treats the qualities of the water such as taste, color, odor, and hardness.
Personally, I have had a water treatment system for over 20 years. I like the way that the better quality of water treats my skin and hair. I also like the way that it tastes. I have a reverse osmosis system in my kitchen. I use it for cooking, feeding the ice maker, and drinking. It has paid for itself over and over in the money that I may have spent on bottled water! Not to mention all of the plastic bottles I have not sent to the landfill.
My advice to you is to have your water tested. You can usually look in the Yellow Pages and find a handful of people that will do it for free. You may want to have more than one person test it to compare the results.
And if you decide to get a home water treatment system, do your research before you buy!
