Home Water Purification: Do You Need It?

Not sure if you need a home water purification system? Read this statement from the Ralph Nader Research Institute:
“U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer.”

The quality of your home water has a huge effect on your health. And if you are buying bottled water and think that you are safe, think again! There have been many studies showing that there is no guarantees as to what is in that bottle. As a matter of fact some of it was found to be plain old tap water when tested!

I am not trying to scare you, just arm you with the facts. Sometimes we are lulled into a false sense of security by advertisers. You really need to do your own research before making any purchases or decisions, especially when it comes to your health.

Back in the day when life was simple things were cleaner. There weren’t as many things to cause problems for us. Today there are many ways for water to get contaminated. They could be from agricultuaral runoff, improper use and disposal of chemicals and many other things.

In the early 1900’s the average American had a 1 in 50 chance of getting cancer. Today it is more like 1 in 3! No these are not all contributed to drinking water, but some definately are. You should have your water tested at least once a year, even if you are onmunicipal water.

Just about any chemicals we use have the possibility of showing up in our water system. The earth uses a lot of the same water over and over. And the earth’s natural filtering process can not keep up with the chemicals that are in the water. Just think about the water that you use and where it goes. Watch it go down the drain and think about where it ends up.

Even the municipal water purification systems that provide our home water are out of date and inadequate. They filter out some of the major chemicals and then they add chlorine. They were fine for the earlier years when there were not as many contaminants, but it is time for a change.

One of the worst things about this is the effect on our children. Children do not have the same ability to fight off the ill effects of this water. They are still in the development stage. Typically children also consume more water which in turn gives them more exposure to these toxic chemicals.

Another misconception is the thought that a certain chemical in trace amounts is not harmful. But what is not considered is the effect of the combination of several toxic chemicals. They would increase the danger many times over.

The bottom line and our recommendation.

  • Only you are responsible for your health. Do not assume that your water is safe. Have it tested and know what is in it.
  • Just because water is in a bottle does not mean that it is safe and pure. Again, do your own research.
  • Our best recommendation is to invest in a home water purification system. We like the Aquasana, but again do your own research. While you are on their site check out their water facts.

The new age has brought many dangers, but also many fixes. Home water purification systems are one that is worth taking a hard look at! It is about you and your families health after all.

I agree that people really should know the facts about the water they drink and I also think they should be very concerned about what is in their water. It is frightening, as you mentioned, the amount of elements in our water that can cause cancer or other types of illness.
